Many new investors and traders using Zerodha brokerage company’s account might encounter confusion when trying to sell stocks after a day or two of holding, as Zerodha requires a TPIN (Transaction Personal Identification Number) if a Power of Attorney (POA) was not submitted during the account opening process.

What is TPIN, and Why is it Important?

TPIN stands for Transaction Personal Identification Number. It is a 6-digit number generated by Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL) to verify the authenticity of customers during withdrawal transactions.

Steps to Generate TPIN in Zerodha:

To generate your trading TPIN (Transaction PIN) for your Zerodha trading account, follow these steps:

Step 1: Go to your Zerodha profile and note down your BO ID, which is your Demat account number displayed on the Kite interface.

Step 2: Open a web browser and search for “cdslindia.com” CDSL website) and select the EDIS option. Then choose “Generate TPIN” from the available alternatives.

Changing TPIN in Zerodha

If you already have a TPIN but need to change it, the process is relatively straightforward. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Access your 16-digit CDSL Beneficial Owner ID (BO ID) which identifies your demat account uniquely

Step 2: Visit the CDSL e-Services website and login with credentials

Step 3: Choose the EDIS option on the CDSL website. Change TPIN: From the available options, select “Change TPIN” and proceed

Step 4: Enter details like BO ID, PAN Number when prompted and complete OTP-based verification

Step 5: CDSL will generate new TPIN after verification and send it to your registered email address or mobile number

Step 6: Now you can use the latest TPIN for all future transaction authorizations and account login

This enables easy resetting of existing TPIN into a new one for your Zerodha demat account. You can submit a request online to CDSL and complete authentication formalities using PAN & OTP.

It is important to note that if you have submitted a Power of Attorney (POA) during the account opening process, TPIN generation may not be necessary. Ensure you have your TPIN ready to conduct withdrawal-related transactions effectively.
